Sunparlour Bluegrass Bluegrass Bulletin #1 (12/23/07)
A new bluegrass music organization is in the formation stage. The name, “Sunparlour Bluegrass”, has been tentatively adopted by consensus of the forming members. It will focus on bluegrass music as defined by the Father of the genre, Bill Monroe, and operate in the Essex-Kent area. The organization (structure under development) is open to all bluegrass pickers and dedicated fans. Events will be performance oriented with groups on stage with sound reinforcement in front of an audience. This format allows participants to step beyond the jamming stage in their music development.
Sunparlour Bluegrass will in no way conflict with it’s sister organization, the Essex-Kent Bluegrass, Oldtime & Folk Music Association, but rather complement it by exploring new ways to support and promote bluegrass music. In fact the Mission Statement is, “To promote and support bluegrass music in the Essex-Kent area”. EKBOFM provides a jam format for a diversified membership; Sunparlour Bluegrass will provide a performance format for a specific membership, bluegrass pickers and listeners.
The first “Bluegrass Gathering” will be at the Comber Legion January 13, 2008, from 2 to 5 p.m. “The Gathering” will be performance oriented, with local bluegrass pickers (or want’a be’s) in typical bluegrass band format (vocals backed by guitar, mandolin, fiddle, banjo, dobro & bass) performing on stage with sound reinforcement before an audience. Bluegrass jammers, it’s time to step out and step up or step back! Come out and pick or listen or both
If you are a bluegrass picker or dedicated fan of bluegrass music and would like to support and promote bluegrass in the area, become a member of Sunparlour Bluegrass. Membership, at this stage, is free and communication is by email. Thanks for your support and spread the word.
